About us

A journey with God

Who we are

Eastside Community Church is a church based in Pretoria, South Africa and affiliated to the Baptist Union of SA. Our ‘main thing’ is to journey with unchurched people as they journey toward a relationship with Christ, and to help them become fully devoted followers of Christ.

Because we are passionate about family, we are passionate about equipping the family with the necessary tools to be strong in an often complicated world.  We have a dedicated team who minister to you, whichever category you belong to… children, teens, young adults; young families; men and women; single, married or divorced.

We have a casual “jeans and tees” environment, our worship style is modern and inspiring, and our preaching is Biblical and practical. We encourage everyone who calls Eastside ‘home’ to be part of a Life Group – small groups of people gathering in homes across the city – to do life together.

Our building is a community building that is used regularly by many different organisations for their events.  We believe we are here to serve our city, and consider our building a connecting point between ourselves and people around us.

In addition to weekly services and Life Groups, we also run regular growth courses for people in our community.  These courses are open to people from all walks of life – whether part of Eastside or not.  To find out more, visit our ‘Courses’ page.

Life at Eastside

When you visit Eastside for the first time, you will be welcomed at the door by members of our Welcome Team who will assist you to find a seat. If you have children with you, they will help you connect with the Children’s Church team, who will securely check-in your children, and give you a security card to collect your children after the service. We can even be ready and waiting for you, and have a name tag already prepared for your children. Click here to let us know you’re coming, and we’ll make sure someone is ready to make you and your children feel welcome!

Our services start at 8:30am, 10:00am & 6:00pm with upbeat worship where we sing songs from Hillsong, Worship Central, Elevation etc. A time is set aside in every service to communicate with the congregation about weekly activities, to give the congregation the opportunity to sow into the ministry at Eastside (but as a visitor, you are to feel no pressure to contribute), to pray for another church in our community, and to share in communion together (once a month) (Note, anyone who has given their life to the Lord is welcome to take communion at Eastside, you do not need to be a member of Eastside). Thereafter, one of our preachers will preach a relevant sermon, usually based on a bible-based series that the church is working through. The entire service lasts approximately 75 minutes.

After the service, you will be invited to stay for a cup of coffee or tea, or a glass of juice, where you have the opportunity to meet Eastsiders and find out more about the congregation. We’ll have a hot cappuccino or glass of fruit water waiting for you at our ‘Connect Cafe’.

If you fall into the ‘teen’ or ‘young adult’ category, we have a service designed especially for you!  Our Engage services (Sunday at 6:30pm) are focussed around the 13-35 age group, with more upbeat worship, MC’s, more fun components in the service and a message directed at a millennial generation.

If you are young (or young at heart) this service is definitely for you!

Join us at 6:30pm this Sunday. We’d love to have someone from our ‘Connect Team’ waiting to show you around, so let us know you’re coming by clicking here.

At Eastside we don’t believe in waiting until children are adults before equipping them to begin a journey with God – we believe a child is on his/her own journey, and we have an amazing team that is devoted to journeying with your children in an environment that is not only designed to make your child feel at ease, but also have a great time.

The safety of your child is important to you, so it’s important to us.  We use a check-in system to securely check your child in, and you will be given a barcoded card to check them out.  Your child will only be released from our Children’s Church facility once you have provided the security card and it has been verified that you are the parent/guardian.

Our teens meet at a number of different times. On Friday nights, the property becomes a place for teens to hang out, connect, be encouraged and make new friends.  During our Sunday morning services, our Teen Church meet for teaching and small groups where they are discipled.  Teens also loving being part of ‘Engage’ on Sunday nights.

We have a growing number (excuse the pun) of ‘young families’ at Eastside – those in their mid-late twenties or early thirties who are in the ‘nappies and milk bottles’ phase of life, or transitioning to the “big school” phase.  We have a Life Group especially dedicated to this group, and also have socials where people in this phase of life can meet each other and hang out.

The Family Life Ministry at Eastside provides many growth opportunities throughout the year to help you be the best possible version of yourself.  From parenting courses to marriage courses; divorce care to grief courses; spiritual growth courses for new and mature Christians – the Family Life ministry at Eastside is a big part of your journey. In a nutshell, we want to do life with you.

  • In the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writings as being fully inspired of God, and we accept them as the final authority for faith and life.
  • In one God eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.
  • That God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual; and that all human beings inherit a sinful nature; which issues (in the case of those who have reached moral responsibility) in actual transgression involving personal guilt.
  • That the Lord Jesus died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice, according to the Scriptures, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
  • In the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.
  • In the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • In the personality of the Holy Spirit, His regenerating work, and abiding presence in the true believer.
  • That all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
  • That all Christians are called to a life of holiness, devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and service for Him.
  • In the resurrection both of the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment of those who have rejected the offer of salvation.
